The Netherlands
Everyone, who flies to The Netherlands, lands at Schipol-the world's greatest airport. It is so interesting with gourmet restaurants and shops that sell diamonds, Dutch cheese, and designer fashions that it is hard to leave. Visitors to Schipol also need to pick up a bottle of Dutch gin which is incomparable in taste if they cannot get beyond the airport. When visiting The Netherlands, it is very easy to take public transportation from Schipol to Amsterdam and then take trains to the other interesting towns in The Netherlands.
Amsterdam is on every postcard of The Netherlands because it has beautiful eighteenth century buildings on the picturesque canals which offer boat tours of the city. There also are fabulous outdoor markets with tulips galore! Visitors can find shops with incredible cheeses, breads, and gin that are only available in The Netherlands. Amsterdam also boasts great restaurants, wonderful boutiques, unique museums that celebrate its great artists like Rembrandt and van Gogh as well as its history like the Ann Frank Museum, universities, theatres, and parks. To leave Amsterdam, visitors can take the trains which have convenient schedules, drive, or bike throughout the quaint Dutch country-side.
Going east toward Enschede, visitors can tour a national park with a museum dedicated to van Gogh and his peers of the Impressionist Era. They can also see a castle currently occupied by members of the royal family and designed by William of Orange. Interestingly, Williamsburg, Virginia reflects the architecture of the reign of William of Orange.
The Hague and Rotterdam also are cities that any visitor to The Netherlands must see. They are beautiful cities with governmental, educational, and business cultures that are of great historical and judicial consequences.
The Netherlands has a beautiful country-side with its farms, canals, and windmills. It also has a coastal region along the North Sea. There are dikes along the coast that hold the water back from the country.
Other suggested trips include:
- Fly into Schipol from anywhere and take a "city hopper" airplane to Lyon and Nice in France.
- After touring The Netherlands, go to Belgium and compare the lifestyle of the northern European countries.
- From The Netherlands, go on to Germany either by train or airplane.
