Luxembourg
Luxembourg, one of the smallest countries in Europe, is its heart. When planning a trip to Europe, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is often left off the "must see" list, unless the visitors to Europe are looking for a good business climate. However, Luxembourg is a great place to visit and only a few miles from other destinations. Visitors to Luxembourg can access the Grand Duchy easily from France, Belgium, The Netherlands, or Germany by car, train, or plane.
The city of Luxembourg, which reminds visitors of a "fairy tale" with its unique blend of the modern with the past, has bandstands, theatres, museums, parks, wonderful restaurants, and historic architectural sites, it also has a pedestrian-only shopping area with fabulous boutiques. Because the city of Luxembourg is on a steep plateau, it also has some very unique terrain to explore.
Exploring rural Luxembourg is fairly easy because the Grand Duchy is an international crossroads and many people speak English. Northern Luxembourg has is wooded and hilly with sparkling rivers and with medieval castles. Northeastern Luxembourg, which borders Germany, has vineyards. Southern Luxembourg has fertile farmlands and a valley with seven castles.
Suggested excursions from Luxembourg:
- Drive north to Brussels in Belgium;
- Travel south to Strasbourg, France and the Ill River;
- Plan a European museum tour and go to Frankfurt am Main, Germany which is famous for its museums along the banks of the Main River, and
- Meander west to Tier and Heidelberg in Germany before cruising down the Rhine River to Switzerland.
