Denmark

Denmark is a country composed of a peninsula and more than 400 islands that stretch into the North Sea between the landmass of Europe and the Scandinavian countries of Norway and Sweden. The peninsula, which is the main landmass of Denmark, is called the Jutland Peninsula. In addition to its incredible coasts, Denmark has interesting inland lakes, rivers, and streams. While history buffs enjoy Denmark because it has a Viking tradition, eco-tourists enjoy bicycling through Denmark with its low elevations and kayaking in the North Sea. Arts and crafts lovers enjoy touring the Danish museums and studying modern Danish designs in furniture and accessories.

Denmark has quaint cities and towns that are picturesque with their mix of the old and the new. Ronne on the island of Borhnolm has half-timbered houses in its historic section. Copenhagen, which is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the north, is on the island of Zealand where there are chalk cliffs and many historic castles to visit.

In Denmark, the Danes like to go to Northern Jutland to relax and enjoy the northern lights. Jutland has flat landscapes, long/narrow beaches, and lots of places to sail. The quaint fishing villages, which dot the dunes, are postcard-picture perfect. Impressionist artists were drawn to the region in the Nineteenth Century. Surprisingly, there are great hotels and gourmet restaurants that serve fresh seafood and jumbo shrimp. Visitors can include Jutland in a road trip or a bicycle touring vacation through Scandinavia and Europe. Some visitors to the region prefer camping while outdoor adventurers like to try sand skiing on the dunes. Jutland also has medieval churches, towers, and museums.? After relaxing and enjoying the beaches during the day, visitors can find a trendy nightlife in Jutland.

Literary travelers must go to Denmark to follow the life paths of Hans Christian Anderson and to visit the inspiration for Shakespeare's Hamlet.

Visitors can get around Denmark easily by train, bus, or ferry if they prefer not to drive.

The Danish cuisine reflects its location and includes rich cheeses and excellent fish dishes as well as its famous pastries.

International travels usually fly to Schipol in The Netherlands or Frankfurt am Main in Germany before flying to Copenhagen. Others fly to either Schipol or Frankfurt am Main and then drive to Denmark.

Other travel suggestions include flying to Copenhagen and using it as the starting point for a Scandinavian holiday.
